First CD
A selection of masterpieces for the first CD.
Solo Guitar (Violao Solo) features a large scope of guitar music, from one of it earliest examples, music orginally for lute by John Dowland (England), to two major composers and guitarists from the 20th Century: the Brazilians Heitor Villa-Lobos and Anibal Augusto Sardinha (Garoto).
Villa-Lobos, known for being one of the major responsibles for the rise of the guitar as a concert instrument, is the only composer to have more than one piece, with his Five Preludes and the Study #11.
Alvaro Henrique selected for his première recording pieces by Dowland – Earl of Essex, his Galliard; J.S. Bach – Prelude BWV 1006a; Giuliani – Grand Ouverture; De Falla – Hommage pour le tombeau de Debussy; John Duarte – Prelude, Canto and Toccata; and Lamentos do Morro, by Garoto, a samba which evokes the atmosphere of Rio.
